Movie-Time!

Hi Friends,

Staying motivated and engaged in the work of democracy can be hard. Staying motivated and engaged in the work of democracy during a pandemic can be even harder.

There are so many other things to do that suck up our time and energy—figuring out how to juggle homeschooling our kids and working remotely, how to pay the bills when we’ve lost jobs, how to get toilet paper when the shelves are bare, how to get our audio and video working on Zoom, and above all how to keep ourselves and our families healthy.

But our democratic institutions are one of the things that will help us through this pandemicand our ability to vote for a more competent, thoughtful, and compassionate federal government is what will help us prepare better for the next crisis.

Let People Vote SEPA wants to make it easier for you to stay motivated and engaged because now more than ever, we need democracy and it needs us!

CALL TO ACTION
Watching a film is easy, right?

Join us for a virtual screening of
Suppressed: The Fight to Vote next Friday, May 8th, at 8:00 PM.

“Suppressed: The Fight to Vote weaves together personal stories from voters across the state of Georgia to paint an undeniable picture of voter suppression in the 2018 midterm election where Stacey Abrams fought to become the first Black female governor in the U.S. The issues Georgians faced included polling place closures, voter purges, missing absentee ballots, extreme wait times and a host of voter ID issues – all of which disproportionately prevented many students and people of color from casting their ballots. Suppressed: The Fight to Vote features experts, poll watchers, and everyday Georgians speaking to the reality of voter suppression and the threat it poses in 2020. In a race that was ultimately decided by 54,723 votes, the film exposes that the basic constitutional right to vote continues to be under siege in America.https://www.bravenewfilms.org/suppressed_about

After the film, we’ll tell you about Reclaim Our Vote, an organization that is combatting voter suppression and expanding the electorate in Georgia and elsewhere. Then we’ll talk about Let People Vote SEPA’s plan to engage in their campaign and give you an easy way to get involved.
