Recreation: Did you know that Upper Darby Township has many options for recreation including, movie theaters, restaurants, bike paths, hiking trails, parks, bowling alleys, performance centers, yoga and martial arts studios, gyms and fitness centers, libraries, historic sites, museums, music venue, art galleries…and so much more? 

We intend to support the improvement of our parks ensuring they are enjoyable, safe and promote the health of our residents and pursue other improvements like bike paths and bike lanes, improving the walkability of our neighborhoods and supporting and expanding recreational opportunities across the township.

Upper Darby Trails:  Do you like to hike and bike but usually go out to Ridley Creek State Park or some other location?  Well, travel no further than your own backyard!  Upper Darby Trails can take you out of time and place for a truly magical outdoor experience. 

Some of the amazing trails you can walk or bike include:

Parks

Aberdeen Road Park— A “vest pocket” park in a triangle bounded by converging streets in the Stonehurst Neighborhood of Upper Darby.


Beverly Hills Recreation Area — Tucked into the Naylor’s Run area is this neighborhood park with Tennis courts, playground and picnic areas, a ball field, and a baseball/soccer field.


Bishop Park (Delmar Field) — A neighborhood park with two baseball fields and a playground.


Bishop Richard Allen Park — A small “vest pocket” park in a residential neighborhood with a basketball court and a green area.


Blanchard Road Playground— Small area adjacent to a row home development.


Brookwood Park — Green area with playground equipment.


Cardington Recreation Area — This neighborhood park has a baseball and football/soccer field and a play equipment area.


Clark Playground — Small park with a playground.


Dermond Circle— Small green space/garden in a commercial development area located in the center of a roundabout road.


Dermond Recreation Area — 6 baseball fields, a concession stand and parking make this one of the larger gathering places for summer sports teams.


Drexel Gardens Park — A small neighborhood walking park adjacent to a stream.


Evans Lane Park — Undeveloped natural area.


Gillespie Park — Wooded public area.




Golf Road Playground — Paved basketball court and children’s play ground in a residential area.




Guilford Road Park — Triangle green space between three roads in the Stonehurst Neigbhorhood.




Huey Park — Basketball court and wooded area in the Drexel Hill section of Upper Darby.




Kent Dog Park — Dog park adjoining a 1 mile paved trail created in 2018.




Keystone Park — Playground equipment behind police station.




Kirklyn Playground— Open area and playground equipment in a neighborhood just off Westchester Pike.




Mansion Park— Wooded area.




McKinley Playground— Small neighborhood playground.




Michelle Park— Triangular open space defined by Springton, Madeira and Sanford roads near Bywood Elementary School.




Naylors Run Park— Following the partial path of a rail line and a stream, Naylor’s Run Park includes a Tennis Court, Baseball and Soccer fields, a playground with equipment and several picnic areas. It is adjacent to the Beverly HIlls section of Upper Darby.




Observatory Fields — Originally a location for an Observatory, this area features a large playing field, parking, and a concession building.




Parkview Playground — Small green area and parking lot adjacent to McCall Golf Club.




Penn Pines Park— Parking lot, concession stand and ball field with a walking trail that follows Darby Creek for about a 1/2 mile.




Pilgrim Park— Wooded area across from Drexeline Shopping center that runs next to Darby Creek and includes a walking trail.




Scullion Park— Ballpark, parking area and playground in Clifton Heights.




Second Ward Recreation Area— Basketball courts and two playground areas.




Sellers Park— Ball park and recreation area on the grounds of the historic Sellers Library facility.




69th Street Recreation Area— This park has three baseball fields and a concession stand and equipment storage building.




Stratford Playground— Small wooded playground area.




Westview Playground— Small ball field and two play equipment areas tucked into an L shape site in a residential neighborhood.




Windermere Playground— Small playground area.
