The first definition of “Community” in the Merriam Webster Dictionary is a unified body of individuals. This is a good description of Upper Darby Township because we are a diverse group of people, choosing to live together, in a unified manner, caring for each other and the space that we occupy in the community. We have many neighborhoods, such as Bywood, Stonehurst, Kirklyn, Aronomink, Drexel Hill, etc. but we are all one in Upper Darby.
In our varied communities, there are some common aspects that unite us:
Safety
Cleanliness
Thriving economies
Places to recreate
Sufficient good housing
Great Schools
Pride in heritage
Good transportation
Access to medical care
Walkability
As part of the UD CCED mission, we are determined to seek ways to bring the diverse elements of our community together for the common good and identify and eliminate any impediments to celebrating our differences.
We will share with the community and promote positive aspects of Upper Darby so that we can value our assets and take pride in our community. We will work with other organizations, the township government, businesses and individuals to determine our areas for growth and improvement and will enthusiastically help to turn these into points of pride as well. Guided by the Upper Darby Township 2018 Comprehensive Plan, we look to supporting the attainment of the common aspects mentioned above.
